Lafayette
dog park

The dogs of Lafayette Park and their human friends are working together to build a fenced-in dog park on the north end of Lafayette Plaisance Park.

about

We’ve met with the city to come up with a plan that complies with historic district requirements and are now in the process of raising $30,000 to pay for: fencing, benches and other amenities.

Once built, the dog park will be owned and operated by the city of Detroit.

All contributions are welcome.

Update:

Thanks to the money you’ve contributed and the enthusiasm you’ve shown for the idea of a place where Lafayette Park dogs and their owners can gather, the city of Detroit has earmarked $100,000 for the project and is in the process of holding important conversations with neighborhood leaders in hopes of breaking ground later this summer or fall. If all goes well, dog lovers should be able to enjoy this new neighborhood asset by the end of the 2024! The $4,078 we’ve raised so far for the effort, as well as additional funds we hope to raise in the future, will go toward supporting the park with activities and amenities.

While we had originally considered a location for the park at the north end of Lafayette Plaisance, near the tennis courts, the city has identified a larger location on the south end of Lafayette Central Park, between Lafayette and Larned. The attached renderings show the two concept plans now under consideration.
